How We Polish and Perfect

STEP 1

Grinding &
Surface Preparation

The process begins with mechanical grinding to remove surface laitance and open the concrete pores. We progressively refine the surface using industrial diamond abrasives to achieve the required aggregate exposure, from salt-and-pepper to full stone reveal.

Densification &
Polishing

Once the desired profile is reached, we apply lithium or sodium silicate densifiers to harden the concrete and reduce porosity. Polishing continues through multiple grit stages to produce a smooth, reflective, and dust-resistant finish.

Sealing &
Final Finish

The surface is treated with penetrating sealers or guards to improve stain and chemical resistance. We complete the process with a high-speed burnish for enhanced clarity and gloss, ensuring compliance with slip and durability requirements.

Answering
Your Polished Concrete Questions

What are the benefits of polished concrete in warehouses?
Polished concrete provides a hard-wearing, low-maintenance surface that resists dusting, staining, and abrasion. Its high reflectivity improves visibility and reduces lighting costs, making it ideal for large industrial environments.
Can any existing concrete floor be polished?
Most sound concrete slabs can be mechanically polished if they meet minimum structural and flatness standards. We carry out moisture, hardness, and surface condition checks before recommending polishing or resurfacing.
How long does the polishing process take?
Timescales vary with floor size and condition. As a guide, we polish 300–600 m² per day using planetary grinders and dust-extraction systems. We plan around your operational schedule to minimise disruption.
Do polished concrete floors need sealing or maintenance?
Yes, after polishing, we apply penetrating sealers or guards to enhance stain resistance. Routine cleaning with neutral pH products maintains surface clarity and performance without the need for waxing or recoating.
Are polished concrete floors compliant with safety standards?
All installations are carried out to BS 8204 and slip-resistance guidelines. We verify compliance for dry and damp conditions, ensuring the surface performs safely under foot and vehicle traffic.
